New Models in TATA

Tata Motors has launched three new variants of its popular Indigo CS sedan. Two of the new models the - Indigo CS LX TDi and LX DiCOR - are diesel, while the Indigo CS GLX is petrol.

http://www.dancewithshadows.com/autoindia/wp-content/uploads/2008/09/tata-indigo-cs-photo.jpg

The Indigo CS sedan is the shortened version of the Tata Indigo and is the smallest sedan on Indian roads. The chopped off boot may mean a little less boot space, but the length means you get a much lower price due to less duties.

The new variants are all positioned at the top end of the Indigo CS range.

That means all the three Indigo CS models get front and rear power windows, central locking, rear windscreen defogger, body coloured rub rails with chrome inserts, and body-colored outside rear view mirrors.

The interiors of the diesel versions are charcoal-black - sorry, no beige interiors for the diesels. The petrol Indigo CS GLX gets the beige interior. But both the diesel duo and the petrol cars get an all-new center console. Add to that, you have better seat fabric and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Body coloured bumpers, air conditioning and heating, plus power steering comes standard on all three new Indigo variants.

There will be six paint colour options - but we do not know exactly what the colours are at this moment.

Indigo CS LX TDi and DiCOR diesels

The new INdigo CS TDI is a turbo-charged diesel with Intercooler, while the DICOR (Direct Injection Common Rail) engineis the more sophisticated and smoother car.

New Indigo CS cars: Price

The price of the Indigo CS LX TDi version is Rs. 4.63 lakhs, while the DiCOR version is priced at Rs. 5.10 lakhs ex showroom. The approximate on-road price would be different in different cities, but should not be more than Rs 50,000 above the ex-showroom rices.

The single petrol Indigo CS version - the GLX - is priced at Rs 4.08 lakh ex-showroom Delhi.

Competition:

Well, the Suzuki DZire is currently extremely popular - the new top end Indigo CS would be positioned against it. While Tata recently launched the new Indica Vista, with much improved build quality, if any of that has made its way into the quality levels and fit and finish of the Indigo CS, we would have to wait and see.

So far in 2008, Tata Motors, along with other car manufacturers in India, have suffered a sales decline due to rising interest rates on car loans. The Indigo CS, however bucked the trend and actually sold more in August 2008 - but you could say that was more because last year at the same time, the Indigo CS was new and sales had not picked up.

The new Indigo CS TDi and DiCOR as well as the GLX versions are what Tata is offering for the upcoming festive season, when carmakers look to arrest the sales decline and hopefully boost it.

Engine and performance

The Indigo CS GLX petrol offers 65 PS at 5200 RPM, and 105 Nm @ 2600 RPM torque and has an MPFI engine with a 32-bit microprocessor. The TDi and DiCOR diesel engines offer70 PS at 4000 RPM, and 140 NM at 1800-3000 RPM
